I actually prefer the stile less opening but the gap that inevitably creates can seem annoying. This will allow your cabinet doors to close properly. Pull the door towards you and away from the cupboard frame to create a gap. Typically there is a 1 16 1 8 gap between all doors.
You might need slightly longer screws to account for the additional thickness of the shim. One quarter inch overall would leave you with a one eighth inch gap all around. As you can see by the red circular areas the door needs to have a small gap between the door edge and the cabinet. This keeps the door from binding up.
If you make the gap much bigger it looks like sloppy work. If you have an even gap that is about 1 8 wide you can skip this step. The ideal gap between a cabinet door and the frame of the cupboard is no more than 1 millimetre 0 039 in. If you loosen it enough you can completely remove the door from the cabinet.
