Finding the studs though can be problematic with stud placement varying widely by home depending on the age of the house or the manufacturing process.
The kind of cabinet you have and the kind of wall you ll be fixing it to will determine the way you ll be fixing it to the wall. If the plaster is in good to excellent condition you can literally screw it anywhere. Hanging kitchen cabinets on plasterboard walls without wall studs is not recommended. The base of the plaster will be a split lath and there is a 90 chance of screwing into it.
You may need to mount the cabinets from the ceiling studs instead. The plaster wall itself is not strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet but installation into the wall studs should be sufficient for supporting the weight of the kitchen cabinets. They should be 450mm away from the top of your worktop. Use a spirit level to mark up where the sides and bottom of the unit will be then mark it out on your wall.
Mark up exactly where you want your wall units to hang. You can also hunt for the studs with a screw where the cabinets will be hung then put the cabinets up and the extra holes will be hidden behind the cabinets.
