Latex polyurethane is easy to use with a sprayer.
Dip an edge into the polyurethane. If you painted your cabinets with any of these paints apply a water based poly over the top to prolong the life of the finish. For best results sand down any imperfections and clean the surface before applying a high quality primer on the wood you want to coat. Apply the first coat of polyurethane using the best technique for the surface.
Then use a good quality roller and wait 6 hours in between coats. Spread the varnish over the entire surface with long even strokes. Wipe it onto the wood following the grain. Do not apply water based polyurethane over the top of gloss latex and acrylic enamel.
Apply either oil based or water based polyurethane with a brush lambs wool applicator or lint free cloth. Avoid wiping the brush on the rim of the can as this may introduce air bubbles. With each wipe overlap half of the previous wipe for even coating. You can apply either water based or oil based polyurethane to unfinished or latex painted cabinets.
