For metal hardware on wood cabinets dip a toothbrush in a 50 50 solution of vinegar and warm water and scrub the hardware the surrounding wood and the crevices of ornate trim. Then use your steel wool to burnish away any pitted or rusty areas. Make suds in the water with your hands by moving your hands around in the water. Rinse out your bucket or bowl and then fill it back up again with warm water and a squirt of dishwashing soap.
Dip a rag into the soapy water and wring it out. Swish the water around with your hand to make suds. Use a sponge paint roller to apply metal paint primer in. Mix 1 teaspoon of mild dish soap with 1 pint of water.
Ahhh the janitors at the cooking school my cabinets original home did not take care to always wipe off sub base and bottom of door or drawer above sub base with clean cloth after kitchen floor has been washed. If your metal cabinet is extra dirty or has some spots that won t come off with soap and water rubbing alcohol can help. Wipe down the cabinets with clean rags and water to remove any debris left from the roughing.
