You can go without toe kicks but i am pretty careless and rough on things so i would be accidentally kicking the bottom of the cabinets constantly and scuffing them up.
Without a toe kick users typically find themselves standing well back from a base cabinet in order to avoid stubbing the toes a posture that leads to leaning over and putting considerable strain on the back shoulders and arms. The toe kick stays flush to your floor and any gap is hidden under the cabinet as the toe kicks are recessed two inches back from the cabinet face. This might seem like a small advantage but long experience shows that this small amount makes it much easier for a user to stand for long periods without uncomfortable leaning and without struggling to maintain balance. Kitchen toe kick round out the lower portion of your new kitchen cabinets.
This notched profile called a toe kick is an ergonomic feature designed to make it safer and more comfortable to work at the cabinet s countertop. The other areas either have no toe kick or a minimal 2 toe kick similar to the plain english style. My butcher block and baking tables are open underneath. It looks cleaner and more professional provides support around the entire perimeter of the cabinet hides the undersides of the cabinets and restricts anything from getting under them making cleaning much easier.
The sink cabinet is inset a few inches with the farm sink over it so that is a functional toe kick. The toe kick is the little cove beneath your cabinets that like its name suggests houses your toes. I love the look of cabinets where the cab box is sitting directly on the floor without the toe kick space. I have an 8 ft section of base cabinetry that i am planning which includes the clean up sink 30 soapstone integrated dw trash pull out 4 drawer base and a narrow open cabinet.

Think of the discomfort you d feel if you didn t have that handy little cave for your toes. Most homeowners don t discover this until they start installing ikea toekicks and base cabinets. Working in this way is quite uncomfortable and can lead to chronic pain and posture issues. So i added toe kicks.
