Silver maple red maple and boxelder are soft maples. Poplar has slightly better flexibility and will bend more than maple under the same load. Poplar is a hard wood but a soft hard wood. Wood cabinets are a classic feature in any kitchen.

The wood of soft maple is not as heavy or as strong as that of hard maple.
